Airbag On/Off Switch SpecificationAirbag Switches Rev: 1/30/09 Airbag On/Off Switch SpecificationAll Airbag Switches shall meet or exceed all current requirements of the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) including Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 section XI s595.5 1. Each Airbag Switch must be able to simultaneously control both airbag detonators in a "multi-stage" airbag, as used in Ford, Chrysler, or General Motors vehicles, including Crown Victoria or Impala models. 2. Each Airbag Switch shall be controlled by a removable key, separate from the ignition key. Once turned to the OFF or ON position, the Airbag Switch will remain in that position until the key is used again to change its position. 3. All switches for a department will be keyed the same. 4. The switch shall include one yellow light to indicate when the airbag is turned off, as required by NHTSA. The switch shall also not effect the normal operation of the airbag warning light on the instrument panel. 5. If the Airbag Switch includes an internal fuse to protect the manufacturer from liability, the manufacturer shall warrant that it will pay to replace the switch should there be a failure of the switch for a period not less than ten (10) years. The manufacturer also shall warrant that even if the fuse opens, the vehicle’s SRS warning light on the instrument panel will continue to work so that the vehicle can stay in service until a replacement switch is installed. 6. All Airbag Switches shall be provided with harnesses that plug into the vehicles OEM inline airbag connectors and snap together with the OEM in line connectors. String, wires or "zip ties" shall not be used to hold together the connector halves. 7. The Airbag Switch shall be free of defects in material or workmanship. All Airbag Switches shall be provided with a full replacement warranty for not less than 5 years
