Most Police and Emergency
Vehicle Managers turn off the passenger airbag as soon as an airbag
switch is installed, and take out the key. The airbag then stays off
until the vehicle is resold. After all, the airbag switch is installed because
of the danger from the laptop or other equipment mounted in the airbag
zone, and the laptop will stay in the car as long as it stays in the
fleet. This eliminates any chance of the airbag being switched on by
accident.
Since the airbag will
stay off until the vehicle is resold, we offer a less expensive
alternative to the airbag switch: the Airbag Simulator. Our Airbag
Simulators snap securely onto the existing airbag connector, and the
vehicle behaves as if it still had an airbag.
If the airbag were just
disconnected, the warning light on the instrument panel would blink or
stay on permanently and the driver has no way of knowing when
there is some other problem in the airbag system. But a Simulator keeps
the airbag warning light functioning properly even though the airbag is
disconnected.
The Simulator
costs less than half the cost of an airbag
switch.

Ford, Chrysler and GM all specify in their Owner's Manuals that nothing shall be
mounted in the airbag deployment zone for safety reasons. An airbag
switch or disconnection with an Airbag Simulator means you can safely mount
other equipment in addition to the laptop in front of the
passenger.
